Roger George and Angela Fox received Trade Mark and Design Litigators’ Certificates presented by His Honour Judge Michael Fysh in April. They were among the first to receive the certificates, which grant suitably qualified trade mark attorneys the right to conduct litigation in IP matters before the High Court. David Musker has had similar rights to conduct litigation as a Certified Patent Litigator since 2000.
Nina Hurley attended the Pharmaceutical Trade Marks Group conference in March. She is now on maternity leave, having given birth to a baby girl, Roísín Maia, on 2 August.
Stephen James chaired a session on domain names and ADR at the ECTA conference in London in June. He also gave a valedictory speech at an event marking Sir Hugh Laddie’s retirement from the High Court bench in July.
Roger George chaired a CIPA trade marks seminar in July, and attended the INTA annual meeting in May along with Stephen James and Tim Pendered. All three will attend the INTA Leadership Meeting in November.
David Musker spoke at a CIPA seminar on trade mark litigation in the Patents County Court and a joint CIPA/ITMA session on Community Designs in June and July. He has recently been appointed Chair of the CIPA Designs & Copyright Committee and President of the Design Commission of UNION (the Union of European Practitioners in Intellectual Property). In July, he represented CIPA at the Japan Patent Attorneys’ Association International Symposium commemorating the founding of the Japanese IP High Court.
