    Roger George announces his retirement.

At the end of 2009, Roger will retire from the partnership. He has completed 45 years in the profession, the last twenty as a partner of the firm, of which he is now the longest-standing partner, and currently serves as chairman of the Finance Committee.
In his early career, Roger practised mainly in patents and, later, developed his own practice through the 1980s with greater involvement in the fields of trade marks and designs.  When Roger joined RGC Jenkins & Co in 1990 he took greater responsibility in trade mark matters and, in late 1995, opened an office for the firm in Alicante where he was present at the opening of OHIM, on 1st January 1996, to file some of the first Community Trade Marks.

Since the early 1990s, Roger has attended and participated at many Marques meetings in Europe, has been a regular attendee at INTA meetings and has assisted with INTA program arrangements for the Annual Meetings in Atlanta and Chicago.  Roger has also visited Japan and Korea to attend meetings and conferences such as APAA and, most recently, he has travelled with the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys delegation to meet their opposite numbers at the Japanese Patent Attorneys Association and the Korean Patent Attorneys Association.

Long an active member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys and the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys, since 2001 Roger has been Chairman of the CIPA Trade Mark Committee, and has represented CIPA at the Registry Practice Working Group of the UK-IPO and participated in RPWG visits to OHIM and, more recently, to WIPO.  Currently, Roger is a CIPA Council member, and he hopes to continue to participate in the activities of CIPA after retirement - perhaps most importantly, in 2010, he will captain the Patent Attorneys Golfing Society (PAGS).

We wish him a long and happy retirement in the company of his wife Zoe, who is herself a familiar face at professional conferences and events, and are sure his many associates everywhere in the world will do likewise.
