Silke graduated from the University of Hamburg in 1995 with an Honours Degree in Physics. She then conducted research in the field of High Energy Physics at the German Laboratory for Particle Physics in Hamburg and the European Laboratory in Geneva. She was awarded her PhD from the University of Hamburg in 1998 and continued with physics research. She moved to London in 1999 and joined Jenkins. That year she qualified as a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and a European Patent Attorney in 2003.
