Stephen graduated in Chemistry from Nottingham University and subsequently obtained a Ph.D. from Cambridge University. Stephen has worked within the patent and trade mark profession since 1978, first within the Government and then from 1985 to 1994 in the pharmaceutical industry. From 1990 to 1994, he was the head of Glaxo’s trade mark department.
Stephen joined Jenkins in 1994 to specialise primarily in trade mark matters. Since then, he has become a universally acknowledged expert in UK and CTM trade mark law and practice. The 2008 Chambers Law Guide notes that Stephen is “a well respected figure” and that "his personal touch is a real plus". Stephen has also been featured numerous times in Euromoney’s annual guide to the World’s Leading Trade Mark Practitioners.
Stephen advises on some of the world’s leading commercial brands. Some of Stephen’s career highlights have included the successful registration of the colour orange for telecoms, the colour pink for insulation, and the Tarzan Yell as a sound mark.
Stephen is a member of ECTA, FICPI and INTA. From 2004 to 2006 he was the President of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (ITMA).
