• CTM Official Fees Drop

A March press release from OHIM confirmed that the overall official fees for securing CTM registrations will be cut by 40%.

Under the new fee structure, the registration fee will be abolished and the application fee will increase slightly to 900 Euros for a CTM in three classes.  CTM designations under the Madrid Protocol will incur a filing fee of 870 Euros.

These changes are expected to be introduced on 1st May this year.

Of particular interest are the transitional provisions – for any new applications filed between now and May 1st, OHIM have said that they will allow these to proceed to registration without requiring payment of any further fees, after the initial payment of the present filing fee of 750 Euros.  This means that there is a small window of opportunity (up to the beginning of May) for obtaining CTM registrations at less cost than either previously or in the future.

If any of your clients is considering new CTM filings, we recommend filing now.
