    Philip graduated from Durham University with an MEng degree, specialising in electronic engineering. He was awarded a PhD, also from Durham University, for interdisciplinary research into the effects of static magnetic fields on nerve function.

    He has previously worked as a software developer and has considerable practical experience of analogue and digital circuit design.

    Philip specialises in obtaining patent protection for software and business-related inventions.  He is active in testing the boundaries of what is considered to be patentable in this evolving area of the law and, to this end, has represented clients before the UK Patents Court and the European Patent Office's Boards of Appeal.  He has particular expertise in databases, financial trading systems, image processing, computer security and Internet-based technologies.

    Philip also specialises in handling inventions relating to telecommunications, electronics and mechanical engineering.  He has acted in numerous oppositions before the European Patent Office relating to mobile telecommunications.  

    Outside work, Philip enjoys travel and is a keen musician.
